How I Got ChatGPT to Send 800 Monthly Visitors to a Website

A Real Case Study on AI Search Optimization

Most SEO work focuses on Google. That makes sense. Google still drives the most traffic. But something changed in 2026. People started searching on ChatGPT, Perplexity, and other AI tools before they even opened a browser. And most websites were not ready for that.

I noticed this gap early and started working on it.

The Problem

One of my current projects was getting almost no traffic from AI search engines. When I checked the analytics, ChatGPT was sending around 10 to 20 visitors per month. That number had been flat for months. Meanwhile, more and more people were using ChatGPT as their first search stop.

The content on the site was fine for Google. But it was not written in a way that AI tools could use to answer real user questions. That was the core problem.

What I Did

I looked at what people actually type or say to ChatGPT when they are looking for something in that niche. Not just short keywords. Full questions. Conversational prompts. The kind of things you would ask a friend or an assistant.

For example, imagine a page about hotels in New York. Instead of just targeting

"Best Hotels New York"
I added content that covers questions like:

Affordable best hotels in New York with great reviews
Highly recommended hotels in New York City
Best value hotels in NYC for a weekend trip
Best family-friendly hotels in New York near major attractions
Top-rated luxury hotels in New York City

Each of these is how a real person asks an AI tool. When someone types one of those into ChatGPT, the AI scans the web for pages that actually answer that specific question. If your page covers it clearly, you get recommended.

That is what I focused on. I found the real prompts people use. Then I made sure the content answered those prompts directly and simply.

The Results

Before Strategy
20
Visits / Month
After Strategy
800

Total Increase
40x
Growth
Analytics Traffic Growth from ChatGPT

Before this work, the site was getting around 10 to 20 visits per month from ChatGPT-related sources.

After applying this strategy, that number grew to nearly 700 to 800 monthly visits from AI search engines.

That is not a small change. It is roughly a 40x increase. And this traffic converts well because people coming from AI tools already have a clear intent. ChatGPT told them this is the right answer. They arrive ready to act.

Why This Works

AI tools like ChatGPT are not search engines in the traditional sense. They do not just show links. They read content and pull out answers. If your content is structured around the exact questions users are asking, the AI picks it up and uses it.

Think of it this way. When a user asks ChatGPT a question, it is looking for a page that answers that question clearly. If your page has that answer, in plain language, with no fluff, you get cited. That citation becomes a visit. That visit can become a lead or a sale.

This is why I call it AI-friendly content. It is not about tricks or gaming the system. It is about writing content that is genuinely useful to the way people search today.

What This Means for Businesses

If you have a website that sells a product or a service, you are probably missing traffic right now. Not because your SEO is bad, but because the way people search has changed and your content has not caught up.

I work on exactly this. I find the prompts your customers are typing into AI tools. I update or create content that answers those prompts. And I track the traffic that comes in from those sources.

The result is more visibility, not just on Google, but on every AI platform where your customers are looking for you.
